• Fuerte (PI: William Martinez) is a school-based prevention intervention for Latinx newcomer immigrant youth. Primary aims of this intervention are to increase (1) mental health literacy, (2) access to and linkage with mental health services, and (3) sense of social connectedness. Dr. Arce collaborates with the Fuerte team on data analyses/program evaluation efforts and contributes to manuscripts focused on risk and protective factors on the behavioral health of newcomer immigrant youth.
  • Project STRIVE (PI: Anna Lau) is an NIMH-funded school-based prevention trial for high achieving adolescents of color who may experience disparate health outcomes as they persevere in the face of barriers to higher education. STRIVE targets emotion regulation strategies and explores their role on the physical and mental health of these youth. Dr. Arce was previously awarded an NIMH research diversity supplement to  examine elements of critical consciousness as additional mechanisms that might be targeted in this intervention and contribute to health outcomes. Dr. Arce continues to collaborate with the Project STRIVE team on manuscripts focused on critical consciousness and other racial and sociocultural processes (e.g., racial socialization, racialized emotions and coping).
  • Youth Impact Study (PI: Laura Wray-Lake; CO-PIs: Elan Hope and Emily Greytak), funded by AmeriCorps and conducted in collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), this project aims to understand the experiences of young activists, including antecedents and consequences (both positive and negative) of activism. Dr. Arce collaborates with this team on data analyses and program evaluation efforts focused on youth critical consciousness development and well-being.
